POTD -Pic of the Day

This is another of the spider plants we got from L.  This one is quite different, in that it's  "curly".  I don't really know how to explain it any differently than that.  The new shoots are curly at the end, it grows in a curly way.  It's just curly.  And I like it.  I may try to take some of the shoots, and root it, and pot it, and see what happens.  In the right pot, it could be pretty cool...  Won't be for a bit, so now pics of it for a few months.  But don't worry, I'll post an update...

POTD -Pic of the Day

Here is one of several spider plants that came from our friend L.  This one was in a container that was WAAAAAAY to small, and had to be repotted.  It actually got split into 3 different plants and containers.  It's now thriving, and will probably be repotted into a hanging container for next summer....

POTD -Pic of the Day

This is the plant that started the whole blog idea.  We had gotten this one this spring, and promptly hung it in an ideal spot on the porch (not the spot it's in now...).  When we went on vacation out west, we had someone take care of the plants, and had them watered about every other day.  Things were great when we got home, and I wanted to turn this one so it got sun on it's other side.

Well!  When I pulled it down to water it, and turn it, I found a small bird's nest with five tiny eggs in it.  I wasn't sure what was going to happen, but decided to leave it alone, and watch and see.  Over the next 2 weeks, we found out that the nest was for Purple Finches, and we watched as the adults hovered around, nested, sang, watched us, and lots of other stuff.  We kept an eye out, and saw when two of the eggs had hatched, watched them grow, and watched adults feed them and each other.  It was truly a site to see.  Within two weeks, they were gone.  Very cool, and very sad at the same time.  But thanks to those little guys, you all can share our porch with us...

POTD -Pic of the Day

This is the Peace Lilly.  2 Pictures for today.  We've had this one for a while, and it's holding up pretty good.  It goes through spurts where we aren't sure what's happening, but then the next thing you know, it's blooming away.  You can see the remains of some blooms in the pictures.  This is one that is extremely sensitive to lack of watering,  and will let you know by drooping way over.  You think it's dead, then give it a drink, and within an hour, it's perking back up.  I think it's been repotted once in the two years we've had it, and it seems to like this pot ok, so it's just hanging out...

A Makeover in the Works!

The porch is really looking great, but keep an eye out for a whole new makeover! We have something in the works that is really going to change the look of the house and perhaps even the porch. It probably will not happen for the next few weeks, but it is coming soon. Be on the lookout for a before and after picture and then let us know what you think! I promise that all the plants and flowers that you’ve come to know and love will still be there.

POTD -Pic of the Day

This is the Rubber Plant.  This is another of the originals, that went through a phase where we weren't sure it was going to make it.  It is still a little sparse here and there, but has LOVED being on the porch this summer.  (It's the porch, folks!  There's just something about it...)

I know it's supposed to be "A" pic of the day, but these were too good not to share.  Next time you see this guy, he'll be in a brand new pot (cause he's getting to where he needs it too).

POTD -Pic of the Day

This is our Corn Plant.  We had another one of these last year, but when we brought it in for the winter, it was infested with these teeny, tiny spiders.  We tried all kinds of things to get rid of them, but nothing worked.  So, when I saw this one at the local BJ's, at a price I couldn't pass up, I got it.  This one is healthier looking than the other one was.  I'm trying to keep an eye on things to make sure we don't have a bug issue again this year...  Wish us luck!

PS - if you look real close, you can see my dog laying on the porch reflected in the door.

POTD -Pic of the Day

I call this one my "Purple Plant".  I don't know what it's real name is, but I liked it.  This was on special at the local BJ's (along with several others that will be featured later) and I just had to have it.  It fairly new, if not the newest of all the plants on the porch, but has already grown significantly since being put in it's permanent pot.  It has also moved locations from where this pic was taken, but who really cares about that anyway.....

POTD - Pic of the Day

This variegated schefflera plant was one of the first plants we bought.  Unfortunately, shortly after we got it, it started to die.  It ended up as a single "stick" and when we put it outside this year, it started growing again.  It still looks a little rough, but it's roots have grown enough that it actually needs to be repotted.

Plant of the Day

I'm going to post a picture a day of one of the plants from the porch.  Not sure how long it will last, and there may be some repeats.  I may, just for kicks, throw in a random picture of the porch.  Let's see how we do with this...

Compliment

Yesterday, someone came up to D and I and complemented on how great the porch looks.  She said it was a complete transformation from when we moved in, and she's so right.

SOOOOO thrilled that someone noticed...  Guess we need to post more about what we see out there, and share it with you all!

Will try to do better.
